As a non-traditional practicewe have found that creative service options can eliminate the need for traditional psychotherapy or greatly reduce the amount of sessions utilized. For example, assessing and solving school related issues can reduce anxiety and acting out behaviors. Helping with social skills may reduce the need for medication or shorten the duration of the medication treatment. Helping with parenting skills reduces the need for intensive child psychotherapy. In-Home Therapy can reduce costly out-of-home placement! Visit us for a creative fresh approach to mental health care.

Group Psychology Groups are now available for children, adolescents, and young adults with social issues as well as anger issues, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, adoption issues, and depression. A new program is now being offered especially for individuals with anger problems. Groups are available for children starting at age 5 and continue through young adults. Groups are for males and females and are broken down by age groups, as well as developmentally appropriate levels. Groups are also divided by area of client need/target symptoms. Most groups are open ended and as such they are available for entry on a year round basis.

The Social Skills Groups are more than simple social skill instruction. These groups target not only skills growth, but the application of these skills outside the office. These groups provide individualized, goal-oriented, success strategies measured bi-monthly with the option of supportive family psychotherapy and other ancillary services. This program has been in place for over 15 years and offers much more than traditional teaching. Years of experience allow us to assess individual needs and not only treat the lack of social skills, but more importantly treat the reason the skills are lacking. Without this part of the program, there are many individuals who learn the skills, but still do not apply them! We also offer “on-site” groups at schools tailor made to their needs.

Academic Consulting/Residential PlacementsAcademic consulting services are now offered at our office by two exceptional Educational Consultants, Alice Morgan, M.Ed., LPC, and Andy Erkis, Ph.D. Between Ms. Morgan and Dr. Erkis, we provide coaching for parents on how to approach school districts, how to better manage behavior plans, and how to help with mental health issues in the school setting. As well, academic consulting services may be the solution to parents who are considering litigation, but seek a cost effective way to resolve issues with the school district. Since we are “school and parent friendly”, we are able to work with the district and collaboratively establish an effective behavioral academic support program. Finally, we offer programs to support students with special needs on a college campus such as check in sessions, advocacy, independent living support, budgeting and more. Ms. Morgan also can help with decisions regarding the college application process.

Dr. Andy Erkis, psychologist/educational consultant, offers services to families who need to have their child placed in a traditional boarding school, residential treatment program, emotional growth program or wilderness treatment facility. When the current home or school situation is not working, Dr. Erkis can bring his wealth of experience to help the family find the appropriate resources in the country. He also works with the family through the time the child/adolescent is in placement and as they re-enter the home or other environment. By using Dr. Erkis to assist in placement, you protect your investment by knowing it is the appropriate placement for your son/daughter and not waste time or money with placements that may not best meet your family’s needs.

Individual and Family PsychotherapyOur team of highly qualified clinicians is available to provide psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. With the experienced clinicians at our practice, we can provide specialization of treatment to the client’s needs. Some examples include clients with Asperger’s Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorders,

Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Social Issues, Anger Issues, Oppositional and Defiant Behaviors, and other Behavioral Problems, Medical Issues or those who are having adjustment issues. Individual needs are matched to clinicians’ areas of expertise. We accept most insurance plans, as well as Autism Scholarship/PASSS Funding.

School and Agency In-Service Training and Consultation Programs – Dr. Jay Berk, a nationally and internationally recognized speaker, can provide on-site training specific to your needs. He can also provide specific case and program consultation. He currently teaches nationwide on topics such as:

• Practical Strategies for Children and Adolescents with Asperger’s Syndrome

• Clinical Updates and Practical Strategies for Today’s Contemporary Mental Health Challenges in Children and Adolescents

Programs can also be tailor made to your needs. (See our website for more information.) Training is made to be practical. Many references are available. Dr. Berk is a consultant to two major area school districts and has provided hundreds of programs of different types to schools, agencies, and groups of all kinds.

Psychological TestingPsychological testing services are provided for academic, intellectual, psychological and projective testing needs with highly qualified staff to provide not only test results, but specific recommendations that can be implemented for success.

Autism Independent Living Program As a result of the growing population of older adolescents and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders, we have established a program to help with the need for them to develop independent living skills, social skills, college success, and vocational/job training/retention. This new program includes social skills, home visits, independent living skills, such as banking, hygiene, nutrition, organization and more. Our program has interventions including individual, group, family psychotherapy, on-site visits (home/apartment/dorm), recreational programs, and advocacy. We also offer an on-site support program for higher functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder students on college campuses who may need assistance with dorm issues, independence skills, self advocacy and more.

In-Home Psychotherapy - When the situation is beyond traditional outpatient psychotherapy we can provide intensive in-home services. Help prevent out-of-home placement with this quality service.
